Trump’s EPA Gives Big Gift to Dow Chemical While Putting Children at Risk

Trump’s EPA is allowing a toxic pesticide onto our food, our water, our schools, our yards, and our bodies. Now, Earth Justice is taking them to court. In a move that will put almost anyone who comes into contact with many common foods at risk, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt has refused to ban the toxic pesticide chlorpyrifos. For the Trump administration, children of farm workers don’t rank as high as Dow Chemical, the main manufacturer and defender of the toxic pesticide chlorpyrifos. Perhaps the Senate, in its hearing on Scott Pruitt’s nomination to head the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), should have questioned Pruitt as the chief pediatrician for [...]

Cancer Causing Chemical Spill Closes Lake Michigan Beaches

The EPA is leading an investigation into the wastewater spill which the agency says is just 100 yards away from Lake Michigan. A U.S. Steel plant in Portage, Indiana has spilled wastewater containing a potentially cancer-causing chemical into Burns Waterway, a tributary of Lake Michigan. The leak prompted the closure of four beaches and a river-walk at the Indiana Dunes National Lake-shore, and Indiana American Water in Ogden Dunes—the nearest municipal water source—to shut down its water intake and switch to a reserve water supply, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which is overseeing the spill, announced. U.S. Steel reported the leak on Tuesday morning. The company informed the EPA that its [...]

Pet Vaccines: When Helpful Becomes Harmful

Over-vaccinating and the overdosing of pet vaccines has become a global issue. 5 lbs dogs are receiving the same dose of the rabies vaccine as 150 lbs Great Danes, and vets are now witnessing terrible side effects. Profit-hungry drug companies and vets are ‘frightening’ dog owners into inoculating their pets more often than necessary, according to U.K. based pet charity, Canine Health Concern. Some puppies have developed conditions including autism and epilepsy after a raft of injections, it warns. Catherine O’Driscoll, from the charity, said: “We are not anti-vaccination. What we are saying is that currently our pets are receiving far too many [vaccines]. The latest scientific research shows [...]

Avoiding 10 Most Common Food Safety Mistakes

Food safety mistakes can easily be avoided! Don’t be one of the 48 million Americans sickened by food poisoning each year. Avoid these 10 common yet dangerous food safety mistakes. Handling foods safely is much more than throwing away expired milk or washing your fruits and vegetables. While these actions are important, there are several more common food safety mistakes that can result in major consequences. Food Safety Mistake number one: Tasting food to see if it’s still good Never taste your food to check if it has spoiled. You can’t taste, see or even smell the bacteria that causes food poisoning, and tasting just a tiny bit of contaminated food can cause serious illness. Throw away all expired [...]

First Evidence Found of Pesticides In US Drinking Water

Small traces of the world’s most widely used insecticides have been detected in tap water for the first time.  Of the many pesticides that American farmers have embraced in their war on bugs, neonicotinoids are among the most popular. One of them, called imidacloprid, is among the world’s best-selling insecticides, boasting sales of over $1 billion a year. But with their widespread use comes a notorious reputation — that neonics, as they are nicknamed, are a bee killer. A 2016 study suggested a link between neonicotinoid use and local pollinator extinctions, though other agricultural researchers contested the pesticides’ bad rap. Every water sample contained three types of neonicotinoids: clothianidin, [...]

Legal Marijuana’s Biggest Enemy Is Big Pharma

Marijuana’s Biggest Enemy Is Not Jeff Sessions–It’s Big Pharma A huge drug company is going after legal Marijuana. Like most grassroots movements, cannabis legalization has its own bogeymen–nebulous entities backed by kings and queens of industry who are as feared as they are loathed. Big Tobacco is in there, of course, as are the corrections and law enforcement industries. But as marijuana gains legitimate footing as a bonafide medicine accepted by top health associations and medical journals–most notably as treatment for chronic and neuropathic pain–legalization’s biggest villain is, perhaps, the well-heeled pharmaceutical industry. Activists’ worst fears about this David-versus-Goliath [...]

The Toxic Chemicals In YOUR Household

Revealed – The toxic chemicals in YOUR household: From soap to scissors, the countless everyday products that contain hormone-disrupting chemicals. Erica Hartmann, Northwestern University This year marks 20 years since Hasbro was fined for false advertising, claiming their Playskool toys laden with the antimicrobial chemical triclosan would keep kids healthier. It is also the year when soap manufacturers will finally have to remove the chemical from their products. Triclosan is one example of a potentially hazardous chemical used in some antimicrobial products. The Food and Drug Administration recently banned it, along with 18 others chemicals, from hand soaps because of unacceptable risks to humans and the [...]

Large Dairy Co. Phases Out Cow’s Milk, Launches Line Of Vegan Plant-Based Alternatives

The demand for vegan plant-based ‘milks’ (such as almond, coconut, soy, cashew, hemp, etc…) continues to increase as more and more people learn that it is unnecessary for humans to consume the milk of other creatures – specifically cow’s,  Elmhurst Dairy, located in Queens, New York, has recognized that cry and, as a result, switched gigs to satiate the masses. The dairy plant was founded in the 1920’s and grew to be one of the largest dairy manufacturers on the East Coast of the U.S.A. Until recently, it supplied seven million people in the metropolitan area. A change was essential, however, as “Pasteurized fluid milk has sort of gone out of style,” according to CEO Henry Schwartz. He elaborated [...]

FDA Moves Forward With Trials Of Ecstasy For PTSD

The FDA gave permission on November 29 for large-scale, Phase 3 clinical trials of Ecstasy for people suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. Many people swear the currently-illicit street drug has saved their lives, and if the trial is successful, it would establish Ecstasy as a legitimate prescription drug. [1] Preliminary trials of Ecstasy, also called MDMA, for PTSD have been successful, but a large-scale trial is necessary before the FDA can approve it. [2] Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), the organization funding the trial involving 230 participants, has in the past studied Ecstasy’s effects on veterans, sexual assault victims, police, and firefighters suffering [...]
