New Tests Show “Extremely High” Levels Of Monsanto Carcinogen In America’s Favorite Foods (Including One Major “Organic” Brand)

One of the elephants in the room when it comes to Monsanto is just how far their highly ubiquitous, highly contaminating agrochemicals are traveling in our environment.

Tests show that the main component of Roundup, glyphosate (declared a probable human carcinogen by the World Health Organization in 2015) can be found in rain, drinking water, and many of our favorite foods in unsafe concentrations.

Now, new tests have shown surprisingly high levels of glyphosate in some of the United States’ favorite foods and a major “organic” brand’s product is among the foods considered to be highly contaminated.

Alarming” Amounts of Glyphosate Found

According to the new report “Glyphosate: Unsafe on Any Plate,” created by Food Democracy Now! and The Detox Project, many popular foods were found to have over 1,000 times the amount of glyphosate it takes to cause probable harm to human health.

That level would be .1 parts per billion of glyphosate, but some of many people’s favorite foods are contaminated. Cereal brands were among the most heavily tested and many contained high levels of glyphosate. Among the most concerning are:

-Original Cheerios, with 1,125.3 ppb of glyphosate (even though they did go Non-GMO recently this underscores the importance of going organic)

-Honey Nut Cheerios, with 670.2 ppb

-Annie’s Gluten Free Bunny Cookies, Cocoa and Vanilla with 55.13 ppb

-Kellogg’s Raisin Bran, with 82.9 ppb

-Kashi Soft-Baked Oatmeal Dark Chocolate cookies (owned by Kellogg’s), with 275.58 ppb, nearly as much as Oreo cookies which had 289.47 ppb

-Stacy’s Simply Naked Pita Chips with 812.53 ppb (owned by Frito Lay)

-Whole Foods Organic Golden Round Crackers with 119.12 ppb (yes even some organic foods may be contaminated with glyphosate nowadays, showing how widely used and overused the chemical is)

Considering that GMOs are developed specifically to resist sprayings of glyphosate, it goes without saying that avoiding GMO foods (buy organic and non-GMO Project Verified) is one of the best ways to avoid glyphosate.

Ultimately, however, the lesson remains: buying local and from trustworthy companies and small scale organic farmers is still the best way to protect your health.
