WASHINGTON D.C.: Rally for our Right to GMO Labels!

The GMO labeling movement won big in Vermont this year. And we may still win in Oregon, once all the votes are in.

But those laws will be nullified, and we will lose the right to pass any future state or federal mandatory GMO labeling laws, if Congress passes H.R. 4432, a bill to preempt mandatory GMO labeling laws.

H.R. 4432—the DARK (Deny Americans the Right to Know) ACT—was introduced by Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) at the bidding of Monsanto, Big Food and the Koch Brothers.

We need to stop this attack on the constitutional right of states to pass GMO labeling laws. Will you join us for a massive protest and media event in Washington D.C. on December 10?

Sign up now, and if a bus gets organized for your area, we’ll let you know!

If you can help organize a bus from your area, please call us at 218-226-4164 or send a message to campaigns@organicconsumers.org. If you can fill the bus, OCA will pay for it.

Pompeo’s DARK ACT is up for a hearing on December 10 (the date hasn’t been finalized yet, but we need to start planning). OCA is working with activists in many states, including New York, Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maryland, to bus people in to Washington on the date of the hearing.

We are also organizing an organic lunch with speakers and the press, following the hearing.

We want to fill the hearing room and line the streets with consumers and citizens who will make it clear to Congress, the media and the Biotech Bullies and Junk Food Giants that we will not sit quietly by while Congress allows Monsanto to trample on our Democracy and poison our food without transparency or accountability.

The GMO labeling movement has not come this far only to have members of Congress, who have been paid off by Monsanto, to strip us of our constitutional rights. H.R. 4432 is designed to kill the GMO labeling movement once and for all. We can’t let that happen. We need thousands of people in order to get the attention of Congress and the media. Can you be one of them?

Dear trusted organizers,

The Organic Consumers Association is organizing a protest on December 10 in Washington D.C. against HR 4432—the DARK (Deny Americans the Right to Know) ACT, a bill to pre-empt mandatory GMO labeling laws.

HR 4432 was introduced by Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) at the bidding of Monsanto, Big Food and the Koch Brothers.

We need your help to fill the streets in front of the Rayburn Office Building in D.C. on December 10.

If you can fill a bus with friends and fellow activists from you area, the Organic Consumers Association (www.organicconsumers.org) will pay for it. We want to show Congress that we’re watching their every move and we’re not going to let them stomp on our right to GMO labels on our food.

We’ve put in a permit request for a rally on the Capitol grounds and we’ve got a church lined up near the House office buildings where we’ll be serving an organic lunch after the hearing. The church also has a hostel, with beds for up to 60 people.

We’re offering these resources for free, but we need help turning people out.

Here’s what you’ll need to do to organize a bus from your area:

Sign up here http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/o/50865/p/salsa/event/common/public/?event_KEY=80143 and please share this Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/organicconsumers/photos/a.10150142479999934.291724.13341879933/10152646020549934/?type=1

Find a bus company in your area and get all the details you’ll need to make a reservation and a plan to arrive in D.C. at the Rayburn Office Building by 9AM Wednesday December 10.

Send a message to Melinda@organicconsumers.org to confirm that you are organizing a bus from your area. Please include public contact information for people to use to sign up for the bus.

Put out the word to everyone you know!
Make sure to get full contact details for everyone who would like to sign up: full name, address, phone, and email. Consider requiring a small deposit ($5-10 to reserve a seat) and definitely make follow up phone calls to confirm seat reservations. Once you’ve got enough reservations to fill the bus, contact Melinda and OCA will arrange payment for your bus.

Make a banner from your state to let Congress know that their constituents are making their voices heard!
